Silk and Connections form Andrea

Silk: spring
I made paper from bouret silk. Bouret silk is obtained from waste of the spice-spinning mill; there are short fibers,
which I have glued with kudzu, a vegetable starch. And then sewn and dye. I have to stick or sew my work on a Plexiglas plate, but I do not know yet.

Connection: bark
I just wanted to show you a beginning. I have several organza pieces sewn and embroidered,
then heated and torn apart
.
Now everything has to be reconnected.

Connections from Juliette Eckel

My ideas for  my work "Circle meets square, meets....":
Every year I work on a special theme, two years ago it were the "colors of the coast of Australia", last year "circle" , "this year "circle meets square meets...."
The first piece I tried was made of a lot of printed fabrics, for me it was too busy...
Then I remembered that I always try to persuade my students, who take printing classes not to treat every printed piece as an artwork, but to cut it and combine it to other pieces. So did I. I had a wonderful piece I dyed years ago with a wax screen. It was one my best first trials and I just could not make up my mind to use/cut it.
As another of my goals is "keep it simple" I decided just to use one other piece of fabric and just a few different threads. For the printing of the fabrics I used the screen I used for my first projects.
This was the way I got the piece. Circles and squares are connected by machine and hand-stitching. This work is connected to my other pieces by the screen-printing.

Connections from Bérénice

Today we want to show you Bérénice work in progress and what she told us
about it.
Amazing.....

Some photo of my WIP...
It is not finish of course, but I can show you the begining...
It took a lot of small stitches to fix the ramifications of cotton yarn on the canvas indigo .... but that's done! .... These are all these points that also fixes the folds of the
Canvas underneath ... Nothing else keeps them for the moment ... And I have to imagine how to fix the rest without making sewing line ...... Currently I am sewing these tiny pieces of fabrics "rust" by fixing them with a pearl .....
This work will talk about what connects each living being to the Universe, from birth to death. What a great subject of philosophy! But that's what I'm worried about right now .....
All these folds are there to evoke what in French we call "les plis religieuse" I have no idea of the translation ... does the term "religious folds" exist? ...... The origin of the word "religion" comes from the Latin religere, which means "to connect"....
